JUSTICE William Ramlal yesterday inspected a Guard of Honour and took the salute during a march past of the ceremonial parade to mark the opening of the June Criminal Session in Demerara.
Apart from the three judges, – Justice Ramlal, Madame Justice Dawn Gregory and Justice Navandra Singh who are assigned to preside over 241 criminal cases, other judges who attended yesterday’s parade included acting Chief Justice, Mr. Ian Chang, S. C., Justice James Bovell-Drakes, Justice Roxanne George, Justice Rishi Persaud and Justice Naresh Harnanan.
Justice Franklyn Holder is in Essequibo while Justice Diana Insanally turned up late.
Justice Singh’s court remained idle yesterday since a four-accused murder case, chosen by the prosecution were not all represented by lawyers.
Efforts are being made to assign lawyers to those who are unrepresented or to find another case.
The accused in the matter are Nigel Sookram, Steve Sookdeo, called ‘Coolie Boy’, Roy Anthony Sewnarine and Vishaul Seecharran, called ‘Markie’.
