MAGISTRATE Judy Latchman yesterday sentenced 20-year-old welder Troy Johnson of Durban Street, Georgetown to 36 months’ imprisonment on a narcotics charge.

He was also fined $10,000 after pleading guilty to possessing 14 grammes of cannabis sativa (marijuana) at Hadfield Street, Georgetown on May 6.

Police Inspector Joel Ricknauth, prosecuting, said that on the day in question, police on patrol duty saw the defendant on the road acting in a suspicious manner. He was searched, and the illegal substance was found in his left side pants pocket. He was told of the offence, and was arrested and charged.
