A proud moment for Region 2

REGION 2 (Pomeroon – Supenaam) has emerged as the most outstanding Region at the National Science, Mathematics and Technology Fair held at the Anna Regina Multilateral School on the Essequibo Coast from 23rd o 25th April.

Announcing the winning region, Chief Judge Ms Loris Oliver said the region was awarded first place winners in Agriculture Science, Craft and Visual Arts, Physics, Integrated Science, Industrial Technology, Information Technology and Chemistry.The region also won the best oral presentation in the Primary and Upper Secondary categories, and the top position in the best overall project. A special prize was also awarded to the region for the involvement of nursery students in the fair.

Agricultural Science, Information Technology and Mathematics. In the Upper Secondary category the schools were judged in Physics, Home Economics, Integrated Science, Environmental Science, Agriculture Science, Industrial Technology, Mathematics, Information Technology, Chemistry and Biology.
The first position in the Social and Behavioral Science went to Mackenzie High School in Region 10, and second place to Queen’s College in Georgetown, while in Home Economics, New Silver Secondary in Region 10 was the winner. In Integrated Science, St Rose’s High won the first place, Cotton Field Secondary of Region 2 second and St John’s Primary third.

In Environmental Science, the first place winner was St. Ignatius Secondary of Region 9, No. 8 Secondary school of Region 5 second, while Abrams Zuil Secondary was third.In Agriculture Science, the Anna Regina Multilateral school won the first position, Queen’s College was second, and Three Miles Secondary third.
The Information Technology category in the Lower Secondary was won by Queen’s college, while in the Mathematics section, Berbice High won the first place and Waramuri Primary in Region 1 copped the third position.

In the Upper Secondary category, Johanna Cecilia Secondary won the first place in Physics, Annandale Secondary was second, and Kabakaburi Primary in the Upper Pomeroon won the third place.
In Integrated Science at the Upper Level, Anna Regina Multilateral won the first place, while the LBI Secondary took away the first place in Environmental science. In Agriculture Science, Santa Rosa Secondary in Region 1 won the first prize, and in Industrial Technology Abrams Zuil Secondary School won the first place. In Mathematics, Mackenzie Secondary won the first place, with Santa Rosa Secondary in Region 1 in second place, and Mahdia Secondary in third place with its project turning water into fuel.
In Information Technology, 8th of May Secondary was awarded first place. In the Biology category another school in the Upper Pomeroon, St Monica Primary won the first place.

Present at the presentation ceremony were Region 2 Chairman Mr Parmanand Persaud, Deputy Chief Education Officer Ms. Donna Chapman, and Ms. Petal Jettoo, National Science Coordinator .
The fair was held under the theme “Science, Mathematics and Technology: Providing solution for the 21st century” and was sponsored by the Ministry of Education in collaboration with GT&T.
