Flying Ace Cycle Club 50 mile road race set for today

CYCLISTS in Berbice will comcpete in a 50 mile road race today organised by Flying Ace Cycle Club. The event which starts at 8:30hrs will see the cyclists leaving their mark in New Amsterdam.As the race gets underway the cyclists will bunch their way up the Corentyne to Number 43 Village where the cyclists are expected to set themselves up for a gruelling return leg.
The sprint to the finish line at the Impression Hotel at Hampshire Village will conclude the 50 miles of action
Prizes will be awarded to the first eight finishers, the first two females and the first two beginners and the first two female u-16 riders will cash in.
Females and beginners are expected to ride shorter distances, while eight sprint point prizes will be up for grabs.
Asked by the Chronicle Sport about the improvement in cycling in Berbice, coach Randolph Roberts said that there are two other cycling clubs in the region, which have recently started working worth persons in the area. There are approximately 25 registered cyclists in Berbice one of whom is said to be a national rider.
The coach, however, pointed out that there is a need for a park or some other facility in Berbice to assist in the enhancing of the sport since cyclists are usually using the main roadways as their practice grounds.
