No witness nor statements…Causes dismissal of offensive weapon charge

MAGISTRATE Judy Latchman, on Tuesday, February 11, dismissed a possession of offensive weapon charge against Abdul Akeem (no address given).
That was because no witness was present in court and nor were police statements in the file.The defendant had first appeared before Chief Magistrate, Priya Sewnarine-Beharry and pleaded not guilty to the offence, particulars of which said, on Friday, February 7, on Mandela Avenue, Georgetown, without lawful authority or reasonable cause, he had a knife.
Before the dismissal, Akeem had been placed on $50,000 bail by the Chief Magistrate and then the case was transferred to Magistrate Latchman for report and fixtures.
