City clean-up part of Mash preparations

THE Ministry of Local Government and Regional Development will be working with the Georgetown Municipality to improve the environment, in preparation for the celebrations on Republic Day, February 23.
Minister of Local Government and Regional Development Norman Whittaker said the ministry will work along with the municipality, in the days leading up to Mashramani, to clean the route of the Mash Costume and Float Parade.The Parade starts at Camp and Church streets, heads east, and then turns north into Irving Street, then into Dr. J.B. Latchmansingh Road, and west into Thomas Road before culminating at the National Park.

Minister Whittaker said the exercise would target the issue of solid waste dumping along the route, as well as vegetation and flooding.
Independently, the ministry will also assist to clean-up the access road to the Haags Bosch Landfill site at Eccles. This exercise is expected to take place within the next two weeks.
