THE first table tennis competition of the year, the National Sports Commission Annual Mashramani Tournament, has officially been set to begin on February 14 at the National Gymnasium, Mandela Avenue.The competition, which will feature mini-cadet, cadet junior and senior categories, is open to all affiliated members of the Guyana Table Tennis Association (GTTA) but those wishing to participate will have to register before the February 12 deadline.

The competition will be held across two weekends with the mini cadets, cadets and junior competitions running from February 14 to 16, while the seniors will have their go the next weekend with competition February 21 – 22.
An opening ceremony, which is set to be officiated by the Director of Sport and head of the NSC, Neil Kumar, will be held on February 15 beginning at 10:00hrs.
The singles events will be played in two stages. Groups will be conformed as necessary, and they will compete according to a Round Robin system. The matches will be five games to win three. The first two players of each group will qualify for the final stage. In the finals, it will be seven games to win four, by a Simple Elimination System.
Apart from the singles competition there will be a boys’ and a girls’ doubles and a junior mixed doubles competition.
