GDF says it never had a “Delroy Campbell” enlisted

THE Guyana Defence Force (GDF) has said that it never had a “Delroy Campbell” enlisted or employed by the Army, according to its records. The GDF was responding to an article titled ‘Cadet Officer on self-bail on discharging loaded firearm matter’, published in the Sunday Chronicle of January 19, 2014.
The GDF in a press release stated that this article prompted a perusal of all of their records and databases, including the Nominal Rolls of the Colonel Ulric Pilgrim Officer Cadet School dating back to 2007.
“All our records have shown that there has been no individual with the name “Delroy Campbell” that was enlisted on any Standard Officers Course and further, ever employed by the GDF,” the release noted.
The newspaper, on Page 14 under the caption “Cadet Officer on self-bail on discharging loaded firearm”, reported that Delroy Campbell, 23, who appeared at Sparendaam Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Alex Moore was sent away on his own recognisance.
The Evans Street, Charlestown resident pleaded not guilty to the offence. On March 9, 2013 at Sophia, Campbell allegedly discharged a loaded firearm at Abdul Cort with intent to maim, disfigure, disable or cause grievous bodily harm. The matter will be called on March 10, 2014.
