EVOLVING from a little boy into an Ambassador for Talent in Guyana is the versatile and very bubbly Hashim Alli.As a youngster growing up without any connection with Guyana’s entertainment industry or knowledge of how it works, Hashim made history for his generation when he stepped into the then Sitare Dance Troupe and made his debut in the arena of dancing.
Known for his unique moves and “star-like” grooves, the experience he gained became important stepping stones for this well-rounded entertainer.
Travelling across the country and the Caribbean and performing was just not enough for this multitalented “Raja”, and in 2004, he decided to join another league of the industry and bring out his own television shows, which were designed to showcase and promote local talent in Guyana. This he did successfully on his show, called “The Blue Jeans Unit”, and later “Rhythm Blast”, which were broadcast on MTV Channel 14, Cable 65.
In 2007, he took a chance and entered the acting industry in Sitare’s presentation of a Dance Drama titled “Not just another Indian Movie Prem & I” where he played the lead role as “Prem”. Many today still remember his sterling performance back then. This he continued to do over the years, and has participated in many shows, such as “Murder at Guiseppe’s”, directed by Gem Madhoo–Nascimento, and more recently, “The Parika Market Starboy”, directed by Ramesh Deochan.
In 2008, he took a break from television, and focused on his career in marketing. However, this didn’t stop his drive for scouting out local talent, as he multi-tasked and urged, supported, guided and managed his choice for the return of the Miss Guyana Sari Pageant, Devi Ramcharitar, who eventually won the prestigious title.
In 2010, this master of the performing arts was not convinced that he had striven enough to perform, support and encourage the performing arts in Guyana, so he started working on his next production, titled “Nachle – Yours to treasure”. Partnering with different talents and making a platform for young and established talents to be showcased, Nachle Productions was born, and it produced ‘Nachle – Yours to treasure’ a DVD production that showcases Guyanese entertainers re-enacting golden and new Bollywood songs using different plots, costumes and creative concepts. Sitting in the director’s chair, Hashim was very awed by the acceptance of this production, and promises a Volume 2, which is currently being produced.
In 2011, Hashim once again tested his managing skills, as he managed Ms Shivanie Latchman to success at the Miss India Guyana Pageant. He directed and choreographed her master talent piece, which saw Ms. Latchman earning the award for “Best Talent”.
In 2012, he directed and choreographed Ms. Artie Deodat’s talent, and she also got the “Best Talent” Award for that year’s pageant.
In 2012, this marketing professional successfully embarked on his lifelong dream to create yet another platform for showcasing the rich talents in Guyana, and nurturing and sustaining them through Entertainers Platform.
Entertainers Platform is a television programme that captures the interest of many, as its tagline is “Create a Platform for you to Perform”. This well conceptualized programme is broadcasted on NTN Channel 18/69 every Sunday at 11.30am. It focuses on young talent as well as experienced ones, and has interesting segments which allow the audience to know more about their favourite entertainer.
Gracing the dancing industry again is what was next in line for this young specialist, as he is now an active member of the Apsara Group. This, of course, has exposed him to the wider market, and has allowed him to work closely with the Miss India Guyana franchise. He even accompanied the delegation that attended the Miss India Worldwide Pageant which was held recently in Malaysia.
Apart from this, this driver for talent still finds time to lend his love to humanity, as he believes in equality of all human beings. He is a member of the Nirvana Humanitarian Society, among other charitable entities. Hashim expresses his words of wisdom to youths by noting that “You can achieve anything your heart desires, once you have seriously thought about it, rationalized it, believe it and work towards it. And always remember: life is like a ball. No matter the direction you spin it, it will always come right back to you, and success will follow”.
