Old Kai: Chronicles of Guyana : ‘Invitation to a Funeral’ – starring Brigand Granger

ONCE a bully, always a bully: APNU and Granger fighting to pope a trip even though they were not invited by the Trinidad Prime Minister.I have heard and seen ‘An Invitation to a Gunfighter’ and that 1964 classic western with Yul Brenner still remains one of Old Kai’s favourites. But I’m still scratching my head and the few strands of hair still hanging on for dear life, wondering if I have ever heard of an ‘Invitation to a Funeral.’

Imagine, Granger get vex because he did not get to go on a trip to South Africa with President Donald Ramotar to the funeral of the great Madiba. Word start to circulate that Trinidad and Tobago Prime Minister Kamla Bissessar invited her opposition leader Keith Rowley to be part of her delegation to travel to South Africa.
APNU jump up and start creating a scene, the men them even crying and beating their chest about it and pronouncing like experts about the virtues of Mr. Mandela, and how President Ramotar not inviting Granger to the funeral was against the principles that Madiba stood for and he should have followed the lead of Mrs. Bissessar.
They then continued about how the great man stood for forgiveness and reconciliation but in the same breath, without even waiting for an explanation or rationale from Government, they announced that because they are upset, they are not going to sign any book of condolences set up by the Government in memory of Madiba; instead they will have their own little set-up. Now is that Mandela-like APNU? What ever happened to the forgiveness, you were just preaching about?
The usual suspects, including Carl Lewis – the Union man, who once claimed that he outran a speeding car loaded with gunmen, decided to jump on the bandwagon and throw in his two sucker-punches on the issue.
But is bareface they all bareface as what they are not telling the people is that the Trinidad Prime Minister charter her own plane to go to South Africa and she invited all the CARICOM ‘Heads of State’ to join her as quoted in the Trinidad Express: “I go in capacity as the Prime Minister of our country and chairman of CARICOM,” Persad-Bissessar said. “And in this regard, I’ll speak to the other CARICOM heads, so that’s happening now and we are asking for those who wish to accompany us.”
Is only shame, APNU and Granger constantly casting on Guyana; fighting to go on the lady plane, even though the Trinidad Prime Minister did not invite him. The Trinidadian people now laughing we opposition in Guyana, saying how they like play ‘wrong and strong’ and saying is no wonder Guyana was reduced to ‘rubble’ under their dictatorship. They saying how APNU’s dictatorial tendencies cannot be hidden any longer and they have renamed the party, the Partnership of Pettiness and Constant Griping because of their tendency to blow up every little issue into a national crisis.
Ruel Rules Himself Out
The young writer, Ruel Johnson is back in the letter columns mixing crassness with his usual tinge of racism in his unmistakable style. The PPP/C party and Government, along with President Ramotar were the targets of this AFC writer who joins his APNU partners and invoked the great virtues of the Madiba, turning it into the proverbial whip to lash out at his targets. This is the very Ruel Johnson who was only recently accused by a group of former AFC supporters of practicing naked racism and kicking them off of the AFC blog on Facebook because of their ethnicity. His response to their honest queries was to launch a tirade of fire and brimstone, using the most demeaning and obscene words in attacking their intellectual capacity and personal traits. Therefore, based on his rationale as outlined in his letter Ruel has effectively disqualified himself and proved that he is least fit or qualified to lecture anyone on moral integrity.
Black Day in Georgetown
Now this has Old Kai still rolling with laughter and at the same time crying buckets of tears for my dear old Georgetown. Imagine, His Highness and his Deputy Mayor along with the opposition councillors all wore black to signify ‘Black Monday’ to show their ongoing displeasure at the appointment of Town Clerk Carol Sooba. Clearly these people have no shame as if they did, they would have been wearing black every single day of the week to mourn the fact that under their watch, municipal services have deteriorated to unprecedented levels.
