The donation was done by the club’s various cricket teams – Rose Hall Town Farfan and Mendes Under-15, Bakewell Under-17 and Second Division, Pepsi Under-19 and Intermediate, Gizmos and Gadgets First Division and Metro Females as part of their personal developmental programme.
Long serving Secretary/CEO of the Club, Hilbert Foster, in handing over the items, said the pursuit of an educational background has been the hallmark of the club since its formation in 1990, as it strongly believes that education is the most important asset a person can attain in life.
“As Guyana’s leading youth and sports non governmental organisation, the RHTYSC has dedicated in assisting youths to fulfill their full potentials in sports and education. For 2013, the Club’s cricket teams have assisted a total of 38 schools with trophies, medals and sport gear while over $5M worth of educational materials were donated to less fortunate students.”
According to Foster, NASS was very special to him and the Club, as he along with numerous members attended that institution over the last 38 years and he pledged more assistance in the future including a donation of books for the school library.
Meanwhile, the seven teams of the club are currently preparing for a massive multi-million dollar Christmas Charity Programme, which will include a Children’s party for 800 kids, senior citizens’ luncheon for 150 persons, sharing out of 500 food hampers to less fortunate families, and the distribution of over $500,000 worth of toys to churches, orphanages, youth groups, and children in the area.
The Club would also be assisting the Berbice Cricket Board to distribute hampers to less fortunate cricketers across the Ancient County, while the 12 cricket teams will receive toys for children in their areas.
The Club would also be working closely with the newly reformed St. Francis Xavier Roman Catholic Youth Club which was recently resuscitated by Foster, to sponsor toys for all Roman Catholic Churches in Region 6, a Christmas concert and luncheon for the Port Mourant orphanages, a youth dinner, and hampers for senior citizens.
The massive Christmas season will climax a highly successive year for the RHTYSC during which the club and its different cricket teams completed a record total of 180 off the field programmes and projects.
