Woman appeals for donations towards kidney transplant

A VERY distraught and saddened Guyanese woman is soliciting financial assistance to undergo an urgent life saving surgery in India.Reema Suthan of Lot 199 Charlotte Street, Bourda, turned up at this newspaper’s Lama Avenue, Bel Air Park Office, Georgetown, literally in tears, with documents to affirm her claims.

She explained that she would not be able to have the mandatory follow-up renal transplant surgery unless she can find US$22,670 to pay for it.
Mrs. Suthan informed that, in 2007, her family was forced to raise G$7M to do a kidney transplant in India and now, five years seven months after, the organ is ‘reacting’ or ‘rejecting’, as she puts it.
As a result of this development, she vomits regularly and her feet swell as the kidney fails to effectively execute its functions.
Suthan laments that she has little time to have the operation done and the entire family is panicking because they are unable to raise the huge sum required without help.
Three months
She is expected to undergo the surgery at the Columbia Asia Hospital, Kirloskar Business Park, Hebbal, Bangladore, India and stay three months there as she recuperates.
A breakdown of her expenses shows that she needs US$1,440 for accommodation, US$1,260 for meals for herself and two attendants, US$1,800 for medicines, US$270 for transportation to and from a guest house and US$3,000 for donor workout.
Added to that, she has to find US$3,000 for recipient workout, US$10,000 for the kidney transplant, US$900 for dialysis (alternate days) and US$1,000 for miscellaneous expenses.
Suthan and her relatives are desperately appealing to corporate Guyana and the general public to make heartfelt donations as they attempt to save the life of the woman, who, like anyone else, deserves the right to live.
Persons and businesses interested in making a contribution to the cause can do so by placing such into account number 2989358 at the Republic Bank branches, or by calling the patient herself on telephone phone numbers 609- 0616 or 227-4167.
