RETRIEVE Raiders have included their energetic former national center, Dwayne ‘Brown Sugar’ Roberts, in their team which will collide with Colts out of Georgetown, when they play tonight at the Mackenzie Sports Club hard court in the second game of a double header. The first game at 19:30hrs will pit Linden’s side Amelia’s Ward Jets against Half Mile Bulls in what should be a good game among the two leading clubs in Linden.
However, the attention will be on Roberts, known for his high energy game as he takes the court after one year from the game following a period of suspension which ended with the Guyana Amateur Basketball Federation ruling in his favour following an appeal against the Linden Amateur Basketball Association.
But his presence will stir interest as he remains one of the top players in Linden, and his teaming up with Neil Marks and young Dwight McKinnon and Sheldron Noel will make interesting reading.
However, their opponents will be no pushover, having beaten the best the City has to offer inclusive of impressive wins against arguably currently the best club in Dyna’s Ravens, which makes them worthy opponents for the Raiders tonight.
The Colts will have in their squad, players like Shelroy Thomas (one of the best locally), Dominique Douglas (a former junior national), and Dave Causeway.
Their ability to play at this venue in front of a partisan crowd will be a test of their nerves and the outcome should be interesting as the Raiders will look to mark Roberts’ return with a win in the game which bounces off at 21:00hrs.
The Linden Amateur Basketball Association is using this game to garner funds to support its vice president, Bryan Lewis, who will be having surgery soon at a City hospital.
