Joint Services respond to unrest at Georgetown prison – heavy presence of riot police, army, firemen at the prison.

Written by Leroy Smith
UP to late last evening ranks from the Guyana Police Force and the Georgetown Prison were searching for an item that was tossed over the prison wall by a member of the public.
The Guyana Chronicle was informed that whoever tossed the object over the prison wall was able to elude the ranks from the Tactical Service Unit (TSU) of the Guyana Police Force, who would usually be on guard outside the prison. The search by the lawmen apparently enraged the inmates of the south-eastern building in the prison compound, causing them to set fires inside the prison.
The inmates lit fires and whatever they used to light the fires were displayed and shown outside the windows. The fiery objects were also tossed out the window but were put out by the Guyana Fire Service.
As word of the situation at the prison got around, persons began converging at the location including relatives of those who are in the maximum security facility.
The development also saw a heavy presence of the police and army at the prison as well as the Guyana Fire Service.
