THE Berbice Regional Health Authority (BRHA), was again the recipient of a tangible donation from Food For the Poor (Guyana) Inc. (FFP), when the donor agency presented a quantity of orthopaedic and other medical paraphernalia for distribution at health facilities throughout the region.
A simple but significant presentation ceremony took place on Friday at the BRHA headquarters at Fort Canje, Berbice, where Chief Executive Officer of the health unit, Dr. Vishwa Mahadeo expressed gratitude to FFP for collaborating with the BRHA in reaching out to needy people.
“Our association with Food For the Poor goes back a long way, since in the days of the ‘old’ New Amsterdam Hospital they rendered support to the paediatric ward and the outpatient department; they even assisted us at our ‘new’ facility by donating foodstuff which were given in small packages to the staff of our institution. They have been and continued to be a great partner to us,” he declared.
$100M IN HEALTH SUPPLIES
Senior Manager of FFP (Guyana) Inc., Jimeal Davis said his organisation is pleased to be associated with the health sector since many of the needs of the ‘poorest of poor’, are met.
“Over the last three years, Food for the Poor decided to play a major role in health care, we have donated over $100M in health supplies and we are going to do more. We are not only about food and housing, we play an integral role in the health of our less fortunate people,” he explained.
Meanwhile, BRHA Special Projects Manager, Melissa Ramdeen indicated that the ongoing Home Based Health Care programme, has been successful because of the input of FFP .
“They have been our only supporter in providing pampers, wheelchairs and other medical supplies that we use to reach out to those in need; all the vapour rub, Nyquil and Dayquil (cold medicine) and bandages, were also generously given by them,” she revealed.
FFP has also been mentioned as a key partner in the BRHA ‘Health an Wellness Army’, which is a body that offers training to those volunteering services to the health sector on the Upper Corentyne.
