Region 6 work programme 85 percent complete – REO – other projects moving smoothly

REGIONAL Executive Officer (REO)of Region 6, Mr Paul Ramrattan, yesterday, reported that the 2013 work programme, both capital and current of Region 6 (East Berbice/Corentyne) is 85 percent complete and other projects are moving smoothly according to schedule.

In an interview with the Guyana Chronicle, he said that so far adequate financing is available to commence the projects which were advertised in the media but as a result of the National Budget being delayed this year, works in the region started late. However, the REO indicated that the region is expected to complete all of its programmes by the end of the year.
He explained that the programme targets the key developmental elements of the communities, such as health, education, agriculture, drainage and irrigation (D&I), maintenance of buildings and roads, among other infrastructure.
He said a lot of focus and effort will go towards ensuring that the undertakings are properly executed.
Ramrattan said the aim is to enhance the education sector in Region 6, including maintaining school buildings, extending some and supplying adequate furniture to those in need.
He stated further, that D&I in his region is being closely monitored and several different jobs were advertised to assist in bettering the system. He added that with almost 15 percent savings, the region is capitalising on other projects and quality work is being delivered.
Meanwhile, Regional Chairman David Armogan noted that the region has capitalised on $383M in developmental works, while $60M is used for maintenance works.
He said all the works being done by the government are in keeping with its mandate to improve and make the lives of Guyanese better.
Armogan encouraged persons who have complaints regarding the functioning of their communities to raise them with their respective Neighbourhood Democratic Councils (NDCs) or the Regional Democratic Council (RDC).
