Nineteen-year-old motorcyclist Ahad Sheik was pronounced dead on arrival at Leonora Cottage Hospital on Monday after he collided with a Canter truck at about 11:45 hrs on De Kinderen Public Road, West Coast Demerara.
According to police investigations, the driver of truck GKK 1849 was proceeding along the roadway when it is alleged that Sheik of De Willem, West Coast Demerara, who was proceeding on motorcycle CF 2204 and travelling in the opposite direction, overtook a motorcar and collided with the truck.
Sheik received injuries and was taken to the Leonora Cottage Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. The driver of the truck is in police custody assisting with the investigations.
BOURDA VENDOR SHOT
Meanwhile, at about 20:35 hrs on Sunday, Troy Bacchus, 36, of West Ruimveldt, Georgetown, was at his stall at Orange Walk, Bourda, when a man approached and shot him thrice to his legs and escaped.
Bacchus has been admitted to the Georgetown Public Hospital for medical treatment and investigations are in progress.
MINIBUS DRIVER SHOT AND ROBBED
In a separate incident at about 01:30hrs on Monday, minibus driver Shawn Sancho, 71, of Hadfield Street, Georgetown, was parking his vehicle when he was held at gunpoint by two men who demanded cash.
Sancho resisted and was shot to his right thigh by one of the men who took away $5,000 before the perpetrators escaped.
The minibus driver has been admitted to the Georgetown Public Hospital and police are investigating the matter.
