Lot 50 Costello Housing Scheme fire maliciously set : –Fire Chief Marlon Gentle

Written By Michelle Outridge
THE Tuesday afternoon fire which devoured a dwelling house at Lot 50 Costello Housing Scheme, West La Penitence, Georgetown was maliciously set, Chief Fire Officer Marlon Gentle has disclosed.

He noted that the occupants were not at home when the blaze started, but the police are probing the fire, which has left seven persons homeless.

The entire upper storey of the two-storey house was destroyed; and suspiciously, ownership of the property is currently being disputed.

At about 15:00 hours on Tuesday, thick smoke was observed billowing from the house, which housed two families; and the Guyana Fire Service (GFS) was summoned to battle the flames.
