GPL employee freed of driving without insurance charge

INNIS Williams, a Guyana Power & Light (GPL) employee, was freed of a traffic charge against him when he appeared at Cove and John Court last Wednesday. He had been charged with having, on Tuesday, October 22, on the Good Hope Public Road, driven PHH 8106 without insurance.
The defendant explained to the Court that the vehicle had been parked for several months because it had not been insured and he would, usually, be picked up by a GPL staff vehicle.
However, on that day, he was late for work and, not wanting to be absent, he decided to drive the uninsured vehicle but was stopped by Police along the way.
Williams said he went the following day, paid and uplifted the insurance but the Police still instituted charges against him.
He was reprimanded and discharged.
