SUPPORTERS of the People’s Progressive Party/ Civic have been urged to work hard and work together to ensure that the party regains the majority in the National Assembly.

This charge was delivered by General Secretary Clement Rohee, who is also the Minister of Home Affairs.
Rohee was at the time speaking at the second of a series of rallies organised by the PPP/C to mark its 21 years in office. The rally was held at the Lusignan tarmac on the East Coast of Demerara.
“Do we want to regain the majority in the Parliament? And if we want that, you have to work hard and work day and night and pledge ourselves that each of us will go out there and do the work on the ground”, he told party supporters.
Referring to an editorial in one of yesterday’s dailies that elections are in the air, he said that there are those who believe that because a few rallies are being held, the PPP is gearing for elections.
However, the fact of the matter is that the PPP has always said that it does not have to wait until the elections season to hold rallies or to meet with the people. He expressed his confidence that the people of the nation are fully behind the PPP/C government, and called on Guyanese to meet with its leaders and voice their concerns since the party is longing to hear from the masses.
Rohee said that opposition forces have always sought to remove the PPP/C Government from office because they believed in the past, and still believe today that the party does not have the right calibre of people to lead the country.
Those who wanted to remove the party from government and who still try in vain to achieve that objective have been campaigning on the notion that the PPP/C only have persons who are fit to cut grass, cut cane, plant and harvest rice and catch fish.
“However, over the years, the party has proved to those who wish to remove the party that the party has the right set of people for the job,” the General Secretary added.
Among the efforts which were aimed at removing the party from office were the imprisonment of PPP leaders and activists and the killing and disappearance of others, he told the crowd. He urged that homage be paid to those who have suffered, struggled and fought for the party. They must be respected, since they always stood their ground and stood resolutely, he said.
Rohee said that the PPP/C firmly believes that it was placed in power because of its dedication and commitment to the people, and the ability of the party and its leaders to change the way the nation was doing business.
