Heavy fog affects take-off and landing at CJIA

Written by Leroy Smith
A FLIGHT from Toronto, Canada was forced to land at Piarco Airport in Trinidad rather than its schedule landing here at Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA) yesterday morning due to heavy fog which affected several communities along the East Bank of Demerara, including Timehri. The flight, BW607 touched down at Piarco Airport at approximately 0.5hrs yesterday morning and was only allowed to leave and touch down at the CJIA at approximately 10.30hrs, after its arrival was delayed for several hours.

The fog also caused several flights out of Guyana to be delayed as there was poor visibility which made it unsafe for the planes to take to the skies.
The other flights which were affected were identified as BW848 and BW524. Those flights were expected to depart the CJIA at 05.35hrs and 06.00hrs respectively, yesterday morning.  However, the flights departed at 08.30hrs and 08.38hrs respectively.
There have been other occasions in the past when visibility as a result of foggy conditions had caused similar flight delays.
