Her mother Cheryl Russell told the Guyana Chronicle yesterday afternoon that said she had last seen her daughter on Friday night at approximately 23:00 hrs, and they had discussed Simone’s planned visit to a health institution.
Ms. Russell said Simone was not in full possession of her mental faculties, and she had also once been a subsistence abuser. She said she had encouraged Simone on Friday night to seek medical attention.
She said her daughter had never been employed, and would travel to Suriname and French Guiana from time to time, but had not done so recently.
The distraught mother said she was assisting a friend in Georgetown with some cleaning yesterday morning, and when she got the call that her daughter was dead, she immediately rushed to Buxton, where she encountered a crowd and her daughter’s lifeless body in a canal.
She said a rope had been tied around her daughter’s neck, and this caused her to believe that Simone had been murdered by someone and dragged to the location.
Asked if she had not been worried after not seeing her daughter since Friday, the woman responded in the negative, and related that Simone would sometimes be at her father’s relatives in Victoria during her absence from Buxton, so she had thought that Simone had gone there.
The police are investigating the matter.
