The young ladies, who hail from the communities of Annandale, Good Hope, Pigeon Island and Strathspey, were awarded with certificates at a simple graduation ceremony, where the Honourable Attorney General and Minister of Legal Affairs, Mohabir Anil Nandlall was present.
Graduands expressed their gratitude for this opportunity sponsored by the Ministry of Labour, Human Services and Social Security. A professional cosmetologist facilitated this programme, in which practice sessions were held in order to offer specialised training in the various skills, including artistry, hair colouring, nail technology and massage therapy.
Minister Nandlall stated that this programme was part of the Government’s initiative to train young people in various areas of extra academic life. “Government recognises that not all of our children can excel academically. Therefore, Government regards as imperative that those programmes be fashioned for young people who may not be academically inclined. However, these young people must be afforded an opportunity to participate equally in our country, as we strive to build a population that has every available skills set. This is the philosophy behind this programme,” Nandlall said.
He further explained that cosmetology is indeed a growing industry and he urged the young ladies to use their recently acquired skills and knowledge in their respective communities so that other young people and other persons can also benefit from their expertise.
The young graduands were grateful for the opportunity given to them, and they pledged to use the skills acquired in the training programme, to fulfill their dream in cosmetology.
