Cash crops on Burnham’s property weeded down by unknown agents

I have lived immediately next door to the Burnham’s property at Pike and Stanley Place Kitty since the 1950s. Since the 1980s the property has been uninhabited.

More recently, the neighbourhood has been cleaning the adjoining drains and weeding sections of its land, all in the interest of maintaining the appearance of the vacant property along the Vlissengen Road corridor entering and exiting the city.
Enterprising neighbours also started to plant cash crops along the north western shoulders of the vacant property.
During the week of September 16, 2013, individuals descended and weeded down all the bearing cash crops on the land. Pigeon peas, pumpkin, ochro, bora, squash crops were all destroyed.
The identity of these agents is unknown but I am certain that the neighbourhood’s efforts to maintain the appearance of the property are known.
It is in that context that I find the actions of the agents reprehensible.
