Brickdam fatal accident : …I never wanted Gavin to conduct a minibus – mother : … car driver who fled scene turns up at police station

MISSHELL De Ally, the mother of 22-year-old Gavin Linsford De Ally, the University of Guyana student and part-time bus conductor who was killed in the accident on Brickdam on Tuesday evening is calling for the police to conduct their investigations thoroughly. Speaking with this publication yesterday at her East Coast Demerara home, the woman said that she was never happy that her son was working as a bus conductor but he insisted that he needed to do it as a part-time job to assist in paying his university fees.

The woman explained that she was at home when her sister called to inform her that there was an accident in the city on Brickdam and that her son and brother were involved. The driver of the minibus is said to be the uncle of the now dead young man.
The grieving mother said that her sister did not go into much detail about the accident but informed her that it was serious and opted to call Gavin’s father instead and related the full details to him.
She described the loss as great since her son was very helpful around the house and assisted the family in getting things done whenever necessary. He was also a very jolly young man, she recalled.
Gavin attended UG after obtaining a diploma from the Government Technical Institute (GTI). He was also involved in construction but opted to conduct the minibus since the construction work schedule and the university classes clashed at times.
The last time Misshell De Ally saw her son was on Tuesday morning when he arrived home. She said that she opened the door and bid him good morning and returned to her room leaving him in the kitchen cooking.
On Tuesday night Gavin lost his life when a motorcar slammed into a minibus that he was conducting, causing the bus to topple, crushing his head in the process.
Passengers who were in the vehicle and who received minor injuries told this publication on Tuesday night that while the bus was overloaded and speeding, the car failed to stop at the junction thus causing the disaster.
The driver of the car it was reported on Tuesday evening fled the scene of the accident. However this newspaper was informed that he turned up at the police station yesterday morning to assist with the investigations.
Gavin leaves to mourn his siblings, parents and other relatives and friends.
