ENTREPRENEUR Zulficar Namdar ,27,also known as Vicky Namdar, was last evening shot dead when two gunmen invaded his home and business place at 76 Meten-Meer-Zorg on the West Coast of Demerara.

The Guyana Chronicle was told that it was just after 19:00hrs that two gunmen stormed into the shop and ordered that no one move, while one stayed in the shop and the other proceeded to the family’s living quarters. The men were masked according to an eye witness.
One young man who was in the shop at the time said that the men placed a gun to his head and ordered that he freeze or else he would be shot dead.
Speaking with this publication, Goolzar Namdar, the father of the dead man, said that he had returned earlier from the masjid in the area, where he is an elder, and had dinner with his family, including his only son.
He then decided to take a bath to prepare for his evening prayer when he heard what appeared to be gun shots.
He heard a man demanding that his wife give him everything that she had to which she replied that she was going to do just that. His wife he reported was assaulted by the gunman who hit her to the head
The man said that based on his initial assessment, the men got away with items and approximately one million in cash. The eyewitnesses said that the two robbers were armed and brandished handguns.
Mr. Goolzar Namdar is an elder of the Central Islamic Organisation(CIOG) of Guyana. Last evening several persons from the community where the incident occurred, including CIOG Director Feroze Mohamed, and other members of the Muslim community were also present.
Asked to comment on the incident, the CIOG Director said that he was very saddened at the devastation of a family which have served their community, and by extension, the country, in a generous manner, mostly looking out for the poor and vulnerable.
He said that the crime situation in the country is escalating and there seems to be no solution to stopping it. He called on the Guyana Police Force to increase its vigilance, especially in the vulnerable areas and communities.
Also present last evening was Minister of Housing and Water Irfaan Ali, who said that the family members are personal friends of his, and it was sad to see them suffer in the way they did.
