A SEVERE thunderstorm with accompanying lightning was responsible for the total shutdown of electricity supply in the Demerara Interconnected System yesterday morning.
The heavy rain caused flash-flooding in parts of the capital city.
The Guyana Power and Light (GPL) Inc said the transmission line linking Garden of Eden and Sophia tripped during adverse weather conditions experienced at around 08:22 hrs, affecting generating sets in operation.
The machines were quickly brought back on line, and electricity supply was finally restored at around 08:58 hrs.
GPL is urging customers with localized faults to report them via telephone numbers 226 4015/16.
