Man charged with Wednesday North Road murder

CURT Clarke, 34, of Lot 1159 Pigeon Place, South Ruimveldt, Georgetown, was remanded to prison yesterday on a murder charge.

He appeared before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry, charged with the unlawful killing of 23-year-old Jamal Fernandez called ‘Gaga’ on Wednesday, September 4, in North Road, Lacytown, also in the city.
Police Corporal Bharat Mangru told the Court that Fernandez, of Lot 14 West Ruimveldt, was standing on the street with two females about 03:45 hrs when Clarke described one of them as sexy.
The prosecutor said Fernandez responded by calling the accused a homosexual and that resulted in a heated argument between the two men, during which the victim was dealt five stab wounds to the chest.
He was rushed to Georgetown Public Hospital (GHP) where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The Prosecutor indicated that there are six witnesses but the investigations are incomplete.
Attorney-at-law Mr. Peter Hugh, representing Clarke, said he would like to bring to the attention of the Court that the prisoner has received several threats about what will happen to him when he goes to the Camp Street Prison.
The case will be called, again, on September 20.
