ACCOUNTING software worth $23.54M will soon be procured for the Deeds Registry following approval by Cabinet recently.
Secretary to the Cabinet, Dr. Roger Luncheon made the disclosure a few days ago during his usual post-Cabinet press briefing at the Office of the President in Georgetown.
According to Dr. Luncheon, hardware and equipment valued $58.17M will also be procured for the Deeds Registry.
Just last month, Cabinet granted its approval for a contract that would see the provision of several new cubicles and accessories through a $26.4M contract.
Meanwhile, it was noted that the purpose of the Deeds Registry is to efficiently and expeditiously administer the laws enacted by Parliament affecting land, whether by way of transport, land registration, leases, mortgages, or by any other alienation thereof.
The registry is also expected to administer laws relating to trade marks, patents, copyrights, trade unions, companies, partnerships, business names, powers of attorney, contracts, and other deeds; and to take in revenue occasioned by the filing and registration of the various documents which are recorded in the Deeds Registry.
Members of staff of the Deeds Registry are required, after a period of three years, to be trained as Sworn Clerk and Notaries Public, in order that they may carry out the several legal requirements of the various statutes with which they have to deal.
The department consists of five sections, namely Notarial Section, Conveyance Section, Land Registry Section, Accounts Section and the Sub-Registry.
