TREVOR Singh of 3310 Buttercup Place, Ruimveldt was placed on $150,000 bail yesterday on a break and enter charge accusing him of stealing a laptop, when he appeared before Magistrate Faith McGusty.
The 22-year-old defendant was not required to plead to the charge, since the Administration of Justice Act (AJA) was not applied.
Particulars of the offence said that on Saturday, August 24 at South Ruimveldt, Georgetown, he being in company of others broke and entered the dwelling house of Malcolm Lovell and stole one laptop valued $240,000.
Attorney-at-law, Paul Fung-a-Fat represented the accused and requested reasonable bail for his client, stating that a man came along and ‘forcefully’ handed Singh the laptop.
Police Corporal Seon Blackman, prosecuting, indicated that the facts the defence counsel presented are contrary to the prosecution’s facts. The prosecutor stated that on the day in question the virtual complainant (VC) secured her home by the means provided and the following Wednesday the accused was seen by the VC walking out of his yard with the stolen laptop in his hand.
However, the defence lawyer pleaded that the accused be granted bail since he was willing to report to the police and his father was present in court and was willing to offer compensation for the laptop.
The prosecutor’s objection to bail was overruled and surety was granted. The accused was ordered to report to Police Constable Prince every Monday and Friday at 09:00 am until September 4.
