Man jailed for threatening to kill his mother : – after she told his ‘drinking spars’ to leave her home

A man who threatened to kill his mother because she told his ‘drinking spars’ to leave her home was sentenced to one month imprisonment by Magistrate Rhondel Weaver at the New Amsterdam Court.

Marlon Debidin of 14 Betsy Ground, East Canje, pleaded guilty to the charge of threatening behaviour.
On August 14 last Zabida Debiden returned home to find her son and two friends consuming alcohol. She became angry and ordered them to leave her premises. However, her son became enraged and threatened to kill her. The woman who was fearful after her son’s threat, fled to the Reliance Police Station and made a report.
However, following his arrest and sentence, the virtual complainant tearfully told the court that she had expected her son, who was recently employed at Rose Hall Sugar Estate, to be given a stern warning instead of a custodial penalty and pleaded with the magistrate to reverse her decision.
But Magistrate Weaver told the complainant, “I will not review the decision as the defendant has already been sentenced.”
