Needing 100 to win after restricting the Zouks to 99 for five in 20 overs, the Red Steel cruised to 105 for four off 17.5 overs. The win took them to six points from six matches and are currently fourth in the table ahead of Antigua Hawksbills with four from six matches, and the Zouks who finished with four points from their seven matches.
Kevin O’ Brien led the successful chase with 37 from 33 deliveries including three fours and two consecutive sixes off the left arm orthodox bowler Garey Mathurin. O’ Brien, who was eventually yorked by Tino best featured in an opening stand of 56 with Adrian Barath who made 17, before being trapped in front by Shane Shillingford.
Ross Taylor was bowled by a quick delivery from Mathurin for 13 and Mahela Jayawardene, playing his first match of the CPL was caught by Darren Sammy behind the stumps for 11 off Mathurin. Sammy was deputising for the injured Andre Fletcher.
It was left to the Bravo brothers to pilot the Red Steel home. Darren finished on 15 not out and Dwayne, who hit a six off Liam Sebastien to bring up the victory was unbeaten on 10. Garey Mathurin, despite being attacked early in the innings by Kevin O’ Brien finished with 2-24 from 10 overs.
Red Steel won the toss and elected to bowl first. All their bowlers were discipline in line and length and utilised subtle variations to restrict the Zouks to 99 for five off 20 overs. After 10 overs they crawled to 44-3 and their 50 came up in the 12th over.
Andre Fletcher, who became the tournament’s highest scorer with 238 runs from seven innings batted through the innings but was only able to accumulate 46 runs from 59 balls containing two fours and one six.
Darren Sammy, with three fours in a 20 ball 16 looked to increase the scoring rate but played on to Dwayne Bravo off the final ball of the 18th over. Man of the match Samuel Badree finished with two for 18 from four overs.
