Is this not a conflict of interest?

I am a concerned citizen of Bartica who hopes to get some clarity on a burdensome topic. Now, within the Regional Democratic Council of Region # 7, we have a regional councillor who is performing duties on the Regional Works Committee overlooking various projects being executed by contractors within our region.

However, she is the wife of a contractor in this region and who tenders for projects. Is it not a conflict of interest that we have someone who is clearly looking out for their own interest on the Regional Democratic Council?

This person who has sworn to overlook the interests of the people is in a position of temptation. Now, this reflects poorly upon the persons responsible for delegating these powers in their interest to better their own ends. How is it possible to put her on the Works Committee? Whenever her husband is doing road contracts she is seen working amongst other persons employed.  As a public citizen this is clearly a conflict of interest since she is a member of the Works committee and more so an RDC councillor. The question is, who is she representing? Is she representing the needs of people in the community or is she destined for personal benefits.

When we are sworn to uphold public office it is time that we do so without bias, with integrity and respect and in the interests of the people that we are put there to represent. I would hope that my concern be a reminder to citizens that public officers are no longer accountable to themselves but to the public and thence to you. I would hope that the relevant authority look into this matter because it does not reflect any good for persons holding public offices.
