I would like to bring to the attention of the Dept. Of Education and the Guyana School Board the lack of education for some of the kids whose parents are ignorant (not to know) of the need for a basic education.
Far too often in the lesser developed countries, our kids have been suffering, not getting the basic necessities such as: food and shelter, medical attention, and a basic education. Guyana has seen a growing number of private schools and institutions which are helping to promote, encourage and restore our place in the Caribbean as a better, safer and economically stable country for the leaders of tomorrow. According to the United Nations, Guyana is one of the highest ranked developing countries in the Education Index.
While the government is doing its part, it is up to the parents, society and communities to also do their part as citizens. According to Guyana’s School Structure, Nursery and Primary education is compulsory, however, kids have been denied this privilege simply because of their parents. The education system is designed to impart basic literacy and numeracy skills to help with the challenges and the ever growing technologically advanced world that we are working towards.
While the aim is to have council members or preventatives ensure that our children are in school, my main focal point is in one specific area, which is the Cornelia Ida Kali temple. Parents have been sending their kids to this so-called institution on the premise that the leaders will ensure the kids go to school and have a proper basic education. However, kids have been made to do menial chores at the temple and walk around the villages sticking flags around as if tying the village down from ‘jumbie’.
I would like to strongly urge our citizens to report the exploitation of our children who are not in school to the council member/representatives, social workers, police department and fire department that in-turn will incorporate necessary methods to ensure that our kids are not being manipulated by parents and so-called pundits
