LOCAL CYCLISTS will converge on the inner circuit of the National Park tomorrow morning, when the 10th staging of the Geddes Grant/Seven Seas 11-race cycling programme pedals off at 09:00hrs.
The cyclists will compete in various categories, including the 12-14 Boys and Girls (three laps), BMX Boys 6-9 (two laps), BMX Boys 9-12 (three laps), BMX Boys 12-14 (three laps), BMX Boys Open (three laps), Veterans Under-50 (five laps), Veterans Over-50 (five laps), Veterans Over-60 (five laps), Juveniles (10 laps) and Mountain Bikes (five laps).
The senior riders will battle in the main event, which is the gruelling 35-lap School Boys and Invitational race, for which the vast-improving Raynauth Jeffrey is the defending champion, having won the 2012 version in a time of 01h: 17m: 29.96secs.
Jeffrey also won the Juveniles race in 2012, but a new champion will be crowned in that category this year as he has moved up to the senior ranks. Junior Niles and Nigel Kingston are the reigning champions of the Veterans Under-50 and Mountain Bike races respectively.
Representatives of Seven Seas, including pharmaceutical specialist Karren Cornell, is expected to assist in the presentation of prizes at the conclusion of the day’s activities, organised by National cycling coach Hassan Mohamed.
