POLITICAL FELONY AGAINST THE NATIONAL INTEREST

What else can be said about the shocking, anti-national act

of the parliamentary Opposition in voting against the critical pieces of legislation necessary, before  consideration is given by the Inter-American Development Bank  for funding the Amaila Falls Hydro Project?
This scenario is like a parent who would have done all that had been humanly possibly in the upbringing of a child, only to face the tragedy of shameless rejection. What an Opposition!
Indeed, it is more than an act of domestic terrorism, so aptly described by the President. Absolutely, it is by far, the worst act of unpatriotic behaviour ever displayed in the political history of the Republic, by any parliamentary party collective.
What is so sad, very, very, very, sad again, is the fact that there has not been even a shred of evidence from either party that points to the project as not beneficial for Guyana and its transformative development. Any reason for non-support objectively should have emanated from such a quarter. Instead, there is now the ‘revelation’ by the Alliance For Change that there is no certainty that the project on completion will provide lower electricity charges for Guyana. Then, if such a perception had been the case, then one can logically conclude that the IDB would have offered advice for modification that suited the means for such a project.
But again, as has been the case in all the other instances of national development projects struck down by this new dispensation of unbridled, and reckless use of its one-seat majority – this is another example of a crime committed against the people of this nation, the greatest political felony thus far!
How does one comprehend an opposition not understanding what acting in the national interest means? Surely, this is yet another instance of a behaviour pattern, from which its constituents included, will be greatly affected, if allowed to continue.
There is no Guyanese, regardless of political affiliation, and ethnicity, whether part of a household, or at the helm, who would not welcome such a project for the immense financial relief that will accrue to everyone. Savings from cheaper supply of energy; the creation of more employment due to the expansion of industry because of being able to do more  with value-added products, that can only occur with cheaper energy; and the development of a greener economy. Most significantly is the fact, that government will be able to save billions of dollars  from this new  source of energy. One does not have to be an economist to project what such alternate funds can do to further the goals of national development.
All the above are in the national interest, what the parliamentary diktat opposition would have vetoed, when it voted against the two legislative bills.
