Grant and DeJonge pick up wins on rain-interrupted second day

JOSEPH DeJonge and Rudy Grant managed to pick up Men’s singles wins on the rain interrupted second day of play in the GBTI Open tennis tournament, ongoing at the courts of the Guyana Bank for Trade and Industry Recreational Centre, Bel Air.

Grant set up a match with the men’s singles number-three man Gavin Lewis, after he got past Kester Adams in his first Men’s singles match. Though Adams kept the heat up in the first set to claim it 2-6, Grant reversed the score to take the second set 6-2, before he finished Adams off 6-1.
DeJonge captured his win against Ryan Panday, after defeating him 6-3, 6-3. DeJonge will next face Harry Panday.
Meanwhile, Bishan Dalip only managed to close in the first set 6-4 in his battle against Seon McGarrell, before rain forced the players to call it a night. Dalip returned yesterday afternoon and sent McGarrell to all corners of the courts as he quickly won the second set 6-3.
Seanden David-Longe is still in the running for the Men’s singles title after he defeated Owen Lewis 6-1, 4-6, 6-3 in Wednesday night’s matches.
