Gordon takes the gold in Monaco

MONACO, (CMC) – Trinidad & Tobago’s Jehue Gordon has won the men’s 400m hurdles of the IAAF Diamond League Herculis meeting in Monaco yesterday.

Gordon performed impressively in the final 100 metres to post a season’s best 48 seconds flat beating American Johnny Dutch 48.20 and Javier Culson of Puerto Rico 48.35 seconds.
Meanwhile, the Ivory Coast’s Murielle Ahoure edged her closest rivals to win the women’s 200m at the Stade Louis.
Ahoure stormed to a 22.24-second win  ahead of American Tiffany Townsend, who was second in a personal best 22.26 seconds  and Jamaica’s Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce was third in 22.28.
Carmelita Jeter, coming off an injury in the Shanghai Diamond League did not start.
Ahoure has become the first woman to win two Diamond League races this season.
Meantime, American Justin Gatlin won the men’s 100 metres in 9.94 seconds.
Dentarious Locke, also of the United States was second in a personal best 9.96 seconds while France’s Jimmy Vicaut finished third in 9.99 seconds.
Kim Collins of St Kitts and Nevis finished in fifth place with Jamaica’s Kemar Bailey-Cole and Nickel Ashmeade sixth and seventh respectively.
Meantime, Amantle Montsho of Botswana won the women’s 400m in a world leading 49.33 seconds.
Jamaica’s Stephanie McPherson ran a personal best of 49.92 seconds to finish second, followed by American Francena McCorory in 49.96 seconds, also a personal best.
Another Jamaican Rosemarie Whyte was fourth in her season’s best 50.86, while teammate Novelene Williams-Mills did not finish.
The next Diamond League event is the Sainsbury’s Anniversary Games in London on July 26-27.
