THE GUYANA Squash Association (GSA) junior team which is headed to the Caribbean Junior Squash Championships to be held in Trinidad and Tobago from July 22 to 28, recently received sponsorship from Smalta, who once again has honoured its promise to continue support of the GSA. Marketing Director of ANSA McAl Trading Limited Troy Cadogan, who presented the cheque to the junior players, said he was very happy to assist the team of great athletes because of their consistent performance, adding that Smalta’s sponsorship will go towards assisting with airfare, entrance fees and uniforms.
Team manager Garfield Wiltshire said that Nyron Joseph and Akeila Wiltshire were named in the team which will represent Guyana at these championships.
He stated that, “Nyron and Akeila are outstanding players, with Nyron winning his second consecutive individual Caribbean title last year in his first year in the Under-17 category and Akeila is one of the top contenders for the Under-17 title this year having won her first Caribbean title in the Under-15 category two years ago when the tournament was held in Guyana.”
Carl Ince, who is the Level 4 Elite national coach, will be accompanying the junior players. Guyana are the defending champions in the Girls and Overall Team competitions.
