Some of the entries in this year’s Car and Bike Show |
Great artistry and creativity were displayed by the contenders, but Trans Pacific’s “Team Avengers” carted off the bulk of the trophies and cash prizes up for grabs in the competition. And this time around, the event saw several hilarious interventions in the form of a bicycle with engine; a bus that opened up to reveal a $27M sound system and other fittings; and even an old, weather beaten car of forty-six years’ vintage sporting a massive music system. While the entrance of this old car evoked much heckling and screaming from the crowd, they simply went berserk when it entered the venue for the sound-off category.
The sad thing is that the car broke down by then, and had to be manually pushed to come before the judges. It arrived seemingly humping and puffing into the venue, like an old horse that had not been drinking water for days.
With MC Mondale Smith creating a much relaxed atmosphere, the event kicked off at about 21:00 hrs, much to the delight of the ever-increasing crowd. Sections of the audience were convulsed with laughter when entrants arrived for the Best Small Bikes segment. No one can actually detail what had occurred, but while one bike seemed to have had a life of its own, dragging its owner all around the ground, another refused to be turned off, bucking about like the proverbial steel donkey in an enraged mood as the poor boy tried all he could to control what spectators dubbed the ‘demon bike’.
Nevertheless, before the show concluded, it was quite evident that the Trans Pacific entity was the ones who had made quite an impression with their entries in the varying categories.
In the Best Car segment, Suraj Singh took the second spot, copping $15,000 and trophy; while in first place was Team Avengers, taking home $25,000 and a trophy. The Best SUV segment saw Philip Smith copping second place, winning for himself $20,000 and a trophy; while the first place winner was Masood Kasim, who was awarded $30,000 and a trophy.
Travis Bagwandass placed second in the Best Bike Super, winning $10,000 and a trophy; while Imram Mohamed took the top spot and carted off a trophy and $20,000. And in the Best Bike Small category, it was Ashkay Gowkarran who was declared the winner, taking home $15,000 and a trophy; while his runner-up, Devin Ram, was awarded $5000 and trophy.
In the Loudest Sound Car arena, Ricardo Sewlall won for himself $25,000 and a trophy; whilst Looknauth Jaganauth received $15,000 and a trophy for his second place effort.
The show climaxed when Team Avengers entered for the Loudest Sound SUV/Bus category. What appeared to be a very well decorated and sleek looking bus later unfolded to be a bus actually fitted with one of the most magnificent sound systems and related accessories. The back door of the vehicle was hoisted to reveal magnificent speakers, tweeters, and other sound devices. Two wing-like features were then pulled from the inside of the bus, and they turned out to be large boom boxes that emitted soul shaking sounds. There were flashing neon lights everywhere, and the level of creativity was just astounding. They, of course, won in this area, taking home $30,000 and a trophy, while Rigz Gagraj placed second and received $20,000 and a trophy.
Quite fittingly, it was the Avengers who carted off the Best Sound Car prize for $25,000; with ‘Danny’, as his name was given, copping the prize of $15,000 and a trophy. Again, the Avengers took top spot in the Best Sound SUV/Bus, winning $25,000 and trophy; with DJ Electronics placing second, taking away a trophy and $15,000.
The Best Artwork Car was again won by Avengers, with their frothy, pink entry — a woman’s dream come true — sporting butterfly wings-looking doors, and incredulous painting and light work.
The Avengers’ dominance continued, and they again won in the Best Artwork SUV category, winning $30,000 and a trophy; while Masooda Kassif took the second place, earning $20,000 and trophy.
In the Best Artwork Bike segment, there was only one entrant; so, naturally, Asheek Gowkarran took home the first prize of $20,000 and a trophy.
Winning the top prize in the Unique Luxury segment was Suraj Singh, taking home $30,000 and a trophy; while ‘Lukram’ took second place and earned a trophy and $20,000. Taking the top spot in the Classic Cars Unique category was Prem’s Mega Sound, winning $35,000 and a trophy; with Sharada Meelza taking second place, whisking away a trophy and $20,000.
Team Avengers took top honours in the Unique Extreme Cars and Extreme Bus categories, winning $30,000 in each respective case.
