P&P Tennis camp wraps up today

THE Guyana Tennis Association’s (GTA) ninth annual P&P tennis camp, which got under way on Monday and was being run at two venues, wraps up today with the competition aspect of the programme.

The camp was mainly aimed for junior players, who would have stepped away from the sport or those who want to learn the basics of the sport for the first time.
According to the association, the turnout for the opening day was below par which was a disappointment for the association which has always received a positive feedback.
However, the association has noted that approximately 40 participants attended the first day of the camp.
It was duly noted by the association that this is the start of the holiday break so they took the sport to the surrounding areas in close proximity to the gymnasium.
The camp catered for junior players aged 6-18 who were split into two groups to utilise two venues in Georgetown: The Gymnasium accommodated players from 6 to 11 while players 12 to 18 were at the Racquet Centre, Woolford Avenue.
Vice-president of the Association, Grace McCalman, noted that this camp is usually a successful one and has seen young players move on to big and successful endeavours. Recently, one of the successes of the P&P Junior Tennis Camp, Afruica Gentle, was victorious at the just-concluded Antigua Junior tournament.
Proprietor of P&P Insurance Company and tennis enthusiast, Bish Panday, has always supported junior tennis and has committed to support such camps in the future. He has also challenged young tennis players to become great student athletes, who not only should focus on their books but also challenge themselves in sports.
