Melee with strip club dancers… Police probe hits snag as shot taxi driver semi-conscious, has difficulty speaking

CRIME Chief Seelall Persaud yesterday said that police have been unable to take a statement from the taxi driver, who was shot and injured during a melee with a group of strip club dancers last Friday morning, since he is semi-conscious and has difficulty speaking, so the investigation has reached a snag.

Leslie Woode, 26, of Seaforth Street, Campbellville, Georgetown, remained a patient at the GPHC nursing gunshot wounds he received when the occupant of a green car discharged a volley of bullets at him, shortly after a row with a group of foreign dancers he had taxied to Cummings and Sixth Streets, Alberttown.
He had just dropped the dancing ladies home when an argument began. The women reportedly summoned someone to the scene and a green-coloured car arrived shortly after and someone in the vehicle opened fire on the taxi driver who was shot multiple times to the body.
Police said that at about 04:00 hrs on July 5, 2013, Woode was standing on the roadway at Cummings and Sixth Streets, Alberttown when shots were discharged at him from a passing motor vehicle.
It was reported that Woode received six gunshots to the forehead, upper body and shoulder and was left for dead after he fell into a nearby drain.
An eyewitness who chose to remain anonymous said it was around 04:00 hrs when he heard gunshots, then he recalled hearing someone calling out for help but he did not venture out.
Sometime after the police showed up and conveyed the man to the hospital.
According to Woode, he had just dropped off a group of dancers at Cummings Street when an argument ensued, however, one of the disgruntled customers made a phone call and soon after a green car pulled up near Woode’s car, a white 212 Toyota, and an occupant opened fire and fled the scene. Several spent shells were recovered at the scene.
