Martial Arts team cops six gold medals in T&T

A LOCAL Martial Arts team from the Guyana Harpy Eagles Martial Arts Academy which recently participated in the Taekajudo Martial Arts Karate Championships in Trinidad and Tobago, came away with 13 podium finishes.

Six of the 13 medals were gold, three were silver and four were bronze. The competition was contested over two days (July 5 – 6).
Ishmael Wilson, who competed in the Male 10–12 years, won gold in the Grapping event and bronze in the Sparring aspect.
Zo-ann Shuman contested the Female 10-12 years. She took silver and bronze in the Kata and Sparring respectively.
Rovaldo O’Selmo won gold in Weapons Kata and bronze in Kata, competing in the 13-15 years Male category.
Roberto Gonputh also competed in the Male 13-15 years and won gold in Sparring then topped O’Selmo in Kata to take silver.
Sensei Paul Ignatius and Sensei Trevor Wilson competed in the Male 18-34 years category. Sensei Ignatius was second in the Weapons Kata and third in Sparring while Sensei Wilson was first in Sparring.
Sensei Troy Bobb was his usual consistent self in grabbing gold in the 35 years-and-over Kata and Weapons Kata.
