TURKS and Caicos Islands (TCI) recorded their first victory in regional U-19 Championships and President’s Selects pile on the points against St Lucia.
TCI, in their first regional U-19 Tournament, secured their first win of the 2013 Championships with an impressive 34-0 victory over Guyana.
Fly half Luis Turby-Field scored just after 10 minutes into the match with a penalty which was followed shortly afterwards by tries from Hooker Scott Glinton and No 8 Franco Monpremier, both duly converted by Turby-Field.
That gave them a 17-0 half-time lead. TCI maintained the pressure in the second half and scored three more tries, one each for De-Angelo Ferguson, Kristoff Malcolm and Lincoln Oulen with Turby-Filed adding the conversion.
In the second match of the day, the TTRFU President’s Selects heavily outplayed St Lucia and ran away with the game, 70-0. Standout centre Cathal Long scored a hat-trick of tries, with further tries from Akesh Beji, Caleb Hector, Sherron Edwards, Elon Thomas, Jordon Rodriguez (2), Leon Pantor (2) and Jamie Aslack, with Pantor kicking five successful conversions.
TCI now play St Lucia in the deciding match of the tournament, to determine who the top national team of the Trophy division will be, with Turks needing only a draw or victory to clinch the top spot, out of the 3 Caribbean national teams.
Meanwhile, the match between the President’s Selects and Guyana has been cancelled.
