NIS Inspectors are responsible for ensuring self-employed persons and employers comply with NIS law

THE National Insurance Scheme (NIS) has noted with concern the article in the Guyana Chronicle on July 4, 2013 newspapers bearing the caption ‘Alleged NIS defaulters share different fates in court’.

Please be advised that NIS inspectors are responsible for ensuring that self-employed persons and employers comply with NIS’ laws.

Please note that our inspectors after carrying out several compliance visits and after failing through methods of persuasion to get persons to comply would then resort to the court.

It must also be noted that examination of a person or company’s business records also falls within the scope of authority given to the NIS inspectors

Members of the business community are herein reminded that it is also their obligation to seek information from the National Insurance Scheme as it relates to compliance.
