THIRTY-SIX-YEAR-OLD businessman Joseph Licorish, of Lot 60 Watooka, Mackenzie, Linden, was granted $50,000 bail yesterday, when he appeared before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry on a drug charge. He pleaded not guilty to having nine grammes of cannabis sativa (marijuana) in his possession last Friday, at Mackenzie.
Police Sergeant Vernetta Pindar, prosecuting, informed the Court that the defendant was standing on the West side of the road in West Watooka, when ranks on patrol saw him throw a blue plastic bag to the ground and a search conducted in close proximity revealed that it contained seeds and stems of the prohibited plant.
Attorney-at-law Mr. Gordon Gilhuys made an application for his client’s pre-trial liberty, to which the prosecutor did not object and the case was transferred to Christianburg Court, also in Linden, for July 23.
