Last Sunday, newly-selected Miss Guyana World 2013, Ruqayyah Boyer, participated in a medical outreach and community health fair project in Cane Grove, East Coast Demerara, at the IMRAC (Irene Madray Recreational Arts Centre).

altThe event was hosted by the Operation Dream Catcher Group (ODC) out of the United States and was a collaborative effort among  ODC, CADVA, the Ministry of Health and IMRAC.
The session focused on highlighting and educating the community regarding various health issues and ways in which they can be prevented. There was sugar testing, blood pressure testing, CPR demonstrations, sessions on the liver, heart diseases, and mental illness.
Meanwhile, several donations were made to members of the Cane Grove community before and after the health fair.
Boyer, who was also crowned Miss Guyana Universe in 2012, is the second Guyanese to hold two major national titles successively. The other Guyanese who held both titles is Odessa Phillips.alt
The beauty ambassador, who had been working diligently in her role as Guyana’s National Queen, was this year named an ambassador and spokesperson for several organizations such as CADVA (Caribbean American Domestic Violence Awareness) IMRAC, and CYEN (Caribbean Youth Environment Network)- Guyana, for which she is the Public Relations Officer.
The community Health Fair in Cane Grove is the second activity undertaken by the queen since she was given her second national title (Miss Guyana World). The first was an interactive forum she hosted on Bullying in Schools and Domestic Violence at the St. Stanislaus College last Friday.
The newly elected Miss Guyana World is preparing to compete in the Miss World Pageant this September in Indonesia, and the official crowning ceremony, where the former Miss World Guyana, Arti Cameron, will crown the new queen, is scheduled to take place later this month.
