The taxi driver, who was held following the $1.1M Woodlands Hospital robbery on Monday morning, was placed on station bail after the 72-hour holding period expired yesterday.
But Police declined to state what surety the man was made to post, noting that the crime is still being investigated.
They are also hunting the lone gunman who relieved the clerk, Sattie Persaud, 47, of a bag containing $1.1M at about 09:00 hrs as she was taking the cash to the hospital’s Accounts Office.
The suspect was apprehended shortly after that happened and Hospital Matron Mariamma John told the Guyana Chronicle Persaud had collected the money from the top floor and was about to carry it to the ground floor when she was surprised by the bandit.
By the time the summoned Police arrived, the robber had fled and several hospital employees were questioned at Brickdam Station.
Some had started pursuing the fleeing man but abandoned the chase after he began waving his weapon in the air and threatening to shoot them.
However, they saw when he stopped the black Raum, robbed the driver of money and gold jewels he was wearing before driving away in the man’s vehicle that he discarded some distance from the crime scene.
The man being sought by the cops was unmasked and wearing dark shades and a multi-coloured shirt over jeans when he walked into the hospital and waited on the cashier to rob her.
The incident has led to security at the institution being heightened, especially around the cashier’s cage.
