CAPITAL works in Region 6 (East Berbice/Corentyne) are slated at Gy$380M this year, and 12 contracts have been awarded, yesterday, for works to commence in the Corentyne district.
Five contracts were signed at the Number 52-74 Neigbourhood Democratic Council (NDC) Office between contractors and Region 6 Regional Executive Officer Mr. Paul Ramrattan.
Construction of a footpath bridge at the 71-72 sideline will be done by contractor Mohabir at a cost of $1,077,000.00; rehabilitation of the double-door sluice at Number 52 Village, and rehabilitation of the first cross street access at Number 65 Village will be done by contractor Anirud Ramcharitar to the tune of $6.4M and $7.1M respectively.
Excavation of the Number 51 main drainage canal and the Essex facade will be done by Associated Construction Services at a cost of $6.9M and $5,093,000 respectively.
Over at the Mibicuri NDC Office in Black Bush Polder, seven other contracts were awarded. Contractor Kris Jagdeo will do rehabilitation of Joanna South, Field 7 and the Mibicuri Post Office streets at the cost of $6,725,565 and $5,482,260 respectively. Memorex Enterprises will reconstruct timber bridges at Mibicuri and Lesbeholden to the tune of $5,405,621 and $5,516,304 respectively, and also construct a new cattle bridge at Mibicuri at a cost of $6,703,458.
The construction of a kitchen at the Mibicuri Hospital will be undertaken by contractor Zaheer Zakier at a cost of $1,793,875; and rehabilitation of the Doctor’s Quarters at the hospital will be carried out by contractor A. Prabudial at a cost of $2,634,555.
Prior to the signing of contracts at the two NDCs, Regional Chairman Mr. Permaul Armogan urged the contractors to do their best, and members of the communities that witnessed the signing of the contracts were urged to act as watchdogs and report any shortcomings to the regional authorities.
The liability period for each contract has been extended from 3 to 6 months, and a 10% of each contract sum will be retained by the RDC until the liability period expires without complaint.
