TAXI driver, Nizam Abdool was robbed, in a pre-dawn attack Tuesday morning, by two bandits who also hijacked his car and escaped in it. Speaking to the Guyana Chronicle reporter on Sheriff Street, as he attempted to telephone relatives, the visibly shaken man said the incident occurred around 04:00hrs.
He had picked up two men in the vicinity of the Botanical Gardens and proceeded to South Ruimveldt, on their direction.
It was in South Ruimveldt that the duo stopped at a shop, bought refreshments, then re-entered the car and asked to be taken to Fifth Street, Alberttown.
They were in Alberttown where his passengers got out and spoke to a female, for a few minutes, then returned inside before directing him to Vlissengen Road.
Abdool said, as they approached the Zoo, one of the men leaned forward from the back seat, choked him and ordered that he stop.
He said the other man stuck a knife in his right rib cage and warned him not to make a sound if he wanted to live.
Nizam said the men then took his $15,000 cellular phone and all the cash he had, which made a total loss of $19, 000. Then they commanded him to get out of the vehicle and, after he complied, the robbers drove off.
The owner made a report, at Alberttown Police Station, also in Georgetown, about his missing white Toyota Carina with registration number HB 9829 and investigations into the robbery and hijacking are continuing.
